Historical Data Packs

Hourly prices for the pricing nodes you choose, from 2018 to the last closed month, as a file you can put straight into a model. Every hour, both markets, the three components of the price, and a manifest that says exactly what is in the file and what is not.

nodes.csv	The catalogue row for every node in the file: name, system, control region, load zone, state, municipality.
manifest.json	What was delivered: the selection, months covered, row counts per node and month, every missing hour, and a checksum of every source file read.
README.txt	What each column means, in plain language.

Column	Meaning
node_id	CENACE's key for the pricing node, for example 04CBA-115
system	SIN, BCA or BCS. Three separate grids with separate calendars.
market	MDA, the day-ahead market, or MTR, the real-time market
date, hour	Operating day and CENACE's operating hour, 1 to 24, in the system's local time. Hour 25 appears only on a fall-back day.
pml	The marginal price at that node in that hour, MXN/MWh
ene, cng, per	Its energy, congestion and loss components. They sum to the price.

What you choose

Up to five named nodes, or every node in one load zone. Any whole months from January 2018 to the last closed month. Both markets, or one.

These are two different selections. Five nodes is five series. A load zone is every node CENACE assigns to that zone in its catalogue, delivered as separate series, not averaged. If you want a zone's published demand-weighted price instead, that is a different series and the history page already shows it for free.

What a pack is not

Nothing in the file is averaged, weighted, filled in or interpolated. Every row is one node-hour as CENACE published it. If an hour is missing at the source, it is missing from the file and listed in the manifest. A blank is never a zero.

The current month is not included. A month goes into a pack only after it has closed and been archived and checked, which happens around the tenth of the following month.

A historical price is not a forecast. What a node paid is a matter of record; what it will pay is not something this file claims to know.

How it is checked

Before a pack leaves, it is checked twice by two separate programs. The first confirms the file holds exactly the nodes and months requested, that every node-month has the right number of hours for that system's calendar, and that the components sum to the price. The second compares each node-month against the same figure served by this site's own database, which was built from the same archive by a different program. Both must pass.

The manifest records the size and checksum of every archive file the pack was built from, so a delivery can be reproduced exactly.

The prices are published by CENACE, Mexico's grid operator, through its public web services. What a pack adds is the selection, the preparation, the checks and the record of what was delivered. The same underlying figures, at daily and monthly resolution, are free on the map and the history page.
